When the World Water Ski Union Technical Committee was formed in April 1960, Alan Clark became one of its three founding members. That influential committee, responsible for drafting all of the rules, selecting judges and drivers for the World Championships, and controlling all the competitive aspects of international competition, remained a body of three until 1973, and Alan served as the representative of Group III until his election as President of the WWSU in 1971, His four-year term as President was marked by significant expansion of the sport.

 

During those four years the Olympic demonstration of water skiing was held at Keil, the first World Cup was organized in Tahiti, and the World Championships were held for the first time in South America.

 

Alan began his water skiing career as a competitor and was among the first to recognize the importance to the growth of the sport of improvement in judging, technical matters and administration. After more than fifteen years on the international scene, judging three World Championships and numerous Moomba Masters, Alan continued his service to water skiing in Australia until his untimely death in 1978.
