(Winter Haven, FL) - USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation scholarships are awarded each year to water skiers and riders who show leadership abilities and demonstrate that involvement in the sport has helped them grow both personally and academically.


For the second year in a row... Krista Butterfield from Sherman, Texas has won the $5000 Barbara Bolding/Jim Grew Scholarship. Krista is a senior at Texas A&M University, majoring in nursing. She is a 4.0 student who hopes to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.


“It is wonderful to be able to water ski and study in college as well as help grow the sport. The USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation is fundamental to continue doing what we love. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity,” says Krista.

Krista displayed a special drive and enthusiasm for water skiing from a very young age. She is a dedicated three-event skier, official, and team leader for the Texas A&M University Water Ski Team. We are proud to award Krista Butterfield the Barbara Bolding Scholarship for her accomplishments on and off the water.


Established in 1968, the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation preserves and celebrates the history of all towed water sports and promotes these sports through our Scholarship Programs and the Water Ski & Wake Sports Hall of Fame.

Anna Gay from Winter Garden, Florida has won the $2000 Elmer Stailing Southern Region Scholarship. Anna is a senior at the University of Alabama majoring in Nursing with a minor in Nutrition. She is a 3.9 student who plans to become a Nurse Practitioner.


“I am so grateful to receive this scholarship and for all of the support the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation has given me throughout my skiing career,” says Anna.


Coach and Team Captain of the University of Alabama Water Ski Team, Anna is a professional trick skier who has won the Moomba and the Under 21 World Championship (Tricks & Overall), Open World Championships, Collegiate Nationals, and the Junior U.S. Open. She is an eight-time World Champion, two-time Masters Champion, two-time World Record Holder. The Former USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Athlete of the Year has never stopped improving.

We are proud to support Anna as she continues to go after her dreams both on and off the water.

Landon Geels from Westminster, Colorado has won the $1500 “Big Al” Wagner Western Region Scholarship. Landon is a senior at Florida Southern College majoring in Business Administration. He is a 4.0 student who plans to become a lawyer.


“I want to say thank you to the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Board Foundation for awarding me with the 2020 “Big Al” Wagner Western Region Scholarship. I feel very blessed to be a part of an organization that works to move our sport forward by providing opportunities like this to college students,” says Landon.



Landon started water skiing competitively just seven years ago and quickly became a top performer in the Western Region. As captain of the Florida Southern Water Ski Team he hopes to lead the team to their first national championship in his senior year. Landon is a rated senior slalom judge and helps at numerous tournaments across the country. He also is a volunteer coach for “Learn to Ski” days.

“I am very thankful to be enrolled at Florida Southern College where I have the opportunity to pursue both a degree… as well as my water skiing career. This scholarship will help to cover some of my tuition expenses this year and will make it possible for me to graduate… and move onto law school where I will work towards a Juris Doctor degree,” says Landon.


We are proud to support Landon as he achieves his educational and water skiing goals.
