Cheri Coover

Awarded in
Show Skiing “Never stop performing and creating”
Cheri Coover is a California girl with a Cypress Gardens soul. Born and raised in Vallejo, Cheri learned to water ski at 4 and was competing in slalom tournaments by age 12. But when she was 15 she went to see a ski show at Marine World in Redwood City, California, and she found her passion: Swivel skiing. She immediately called Cypress Gardens and ordered a swivel ski.
When Marine World moved to Vallejo just over a year later, Cheri was ready. She was a full-time show skier at Marine World from 1985-2002. She also traveled the world to perform and coach other swivel skiers from Germany to Australia. Over the decades, she racked up numerous national championships, even being the first swivel skier in 37 years to take the national championship away from a Cypress Gardens skier in 1988.
Cheri’s passion was to bring something new to her performances, spending many hours on the water creating new tricks including: revolutions non-stop overheads, 720, one arm 720, rev 720, 1080 rev 1080, 1440, rev 1440 overheads and hand-to-hands plus wraps, outside the wake, overhead pull, under-leg combo and down flip combo.
Cheri utilized the grace of classical ballet, jazz, and pop/rock to emphasize the versatility of swivel skiing.
“I dedicated myself 100% to constantly performing, creating and being dedicated to the sport,” says Cheri.
