The Reading Water Skier made a generous $60,000 contribution to the AWSEF Water Ski Hall of fame for the construction of a judges' tower on the north side of Lake Grew in Polk City, Fla.   After years of contributing to the sport of water skiing, the club's final act was to contribute again.  The club donated the money after selling its clubhouse property along the Schuykill River. 

For decades since the club's inception in 1956, the Reading Water Skiers were a thriving club with membership of more than 180 in the 1990's.  Anyone who had the opportunity to attend a tournament on the Schuykill river at the Felix Dam had a total tournament experience.  Adjacent to the Reading clubhouse was a county park.  Local residents, local media and club members' friends and relatives would line the shores for the tournament action.  One of the most notable sources of excitement were the announcers.  Bert and Steve Mileski and  Barry Sangrey hyped the competition to levels unseen in the sport with the exception of pro events.  The Reading water Skiers also hosted a dinner and party at the clubhouse during tournaments with activities for both children and adults.  The result was great camaraderie and fellowship.

In July 1998, the club hosted the Pennsylvania State Championships, the last of many water ski events they had held over the past several decades.  A year or two later, the Felix Dam broke after years of being in need of costly repairs.  Today the area of the Schuykill River that the Reading Water Skiers enjoyed for so many years is not much more than a stream. 

The state government in Pennsylvania decided not to rebuild the Felix Dam for several reasons despite the club's best efforts over the last few years.  Some club members have migrated ot other public and private sites in the area, some no longer are involved the sport.

After everything the Reading Water Skiers have contributed to the sport over the years, their recent generosity to the AWSEF has been overwhelming.  A special thank you is extended to the club on behalf of all of those who have benefited from their significant contributions over the years.
