In 1976 in the state of Alabama Water Skiing began for the Baggiano family.
The family joined the Lake Martin Ski Club that was founded in 1949, that same year.
While all five children and Mom and Pop enjoyed water skiing, it soon became apparent the son Tory showed competitive promise. Within a few years, Tory was competing at the National and World level. He was a member of six U.S. World Teams, set two World Trick records and won the Gold Medal in Trick skiing at the 1993 World Championships in Singapore. Tory was inducted into the U.S. Water Ski Hall of Fame in 2004 and the World Water Ski Hall of Fame in 2009.
Tony and Faye’s interest was more encompassing becoming Senior Judges and Scorers. Tony served as Chairman of the Board of the American Water Ski Association (AWSA) for three years, President of AWSA from 1990-1994 and represented the USA Water Ski as a Board member of the United States Olympic Committee for fifteen years. Tony has served on the American Water Ski Educational Foundation (AWSEF) Board of Trustees for 28 years and still an active member of the board in 2012. He has served on the AWSEF Fund Raising Committee and helped to raise thousands of dollars when needed by the organization.
“The best part of our many years of involvement has been the affiliation with dedicated and wonderful people” said Pop Baggiano.
