Zachary “Lucky” Detray from Southeastern University has been awarded the $1,000
Jeff Clark Florida Water Ski Federation Scholarship.
“This Scholarship reminds me of how grateful I am to be skiing, a gift I don't take for granted." says Zachary.

"I am very grateful for the support of the incredible water ski community and the leaders who continue to believe in and lift up young athletes like me."
I am extremely honored and grateful to be the 2025 recipient of the Jeff Clark Scholarship. This recognition not only supports my continued growth in water skiing but also serves as a powerful reminder of how grateful I am to be skiing — a gift I never take for granted.
For the past 13 years, water skiing has been more than just a sport to me; it's been a passion and a way of life. I’ve had the privilege of skiing at both the Florida State and Southern Regional Championships and assisting at Pentalago events where I’ve helped introduce new skiers to the sport. I plan to further support water skiing by earning my scorer and judges ratings, and I hope to contribute to the development of new technology that makes hosting tournaments easier and more accessible.
Beyond the water, I’m preparing for a career in film production with a focus on directing and camera work — a path that aligns perfectly with my current role on the South Fork High School football film crew and my Digital TV Technology certification. I’m deeply involved in community and leadership roles, from being a speaker and fundraiser for the Nicklaus Children’s Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network to participating in Student Government, First Priority Club, and Neighborhood Watch programs.
It’s also been an honor to serve as the 2025 SFHS Graduation Speaker, Prom King, and a member of the National Honor Society. Most of all, I am proud to help my friend, Holocaust Survivor Irene Zisblatt, share her story and mission to inspire my generation to stand up against injustice.
This scholarship represents more than financial support — it reflects the encouragement of a water ski community that continues to lift up young athletes like me. Thank you again for investing in my future and for all you do to support the sport we love.
Awarded to a youth male competitor at the Florida State Championships as selected by the Board of Directors of the Florida Water Ski Federation. The Jeff Clark Florida Water Ski Federation Scholarship shall be awarded to the competitor based on both athletics and character to honor Mr. Clark’s commitment to the sport both on and off the water.
Mr. Clark has been actively involved in all aspects of the sport: skier, official, dedicated volunteer, and mentor. The recipient should represent his character and work ethic.
The Scholarship recipient will be announced at the State Championships, and the funds will be held in escrow with the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation for use by the recipient, within four years of graduating high school at an accredited two or four-year college or university.
The USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation is very proud of our young athletes and honored to support their future academic needs. You can help support our mission by joining or donating to the foundation.
Established in 1968, the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation celebrates the history of all towed water sports and promotes these sports through our Scholarship and Collegiate Grant Programs and the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Hall of Fame.
