Madison Martin from Iowa State University has been awarded the $2,500 John Van Gieson Scholarship.
"It is a tremendous honor to receive the 2026 John Van Gieson Scholarship, and I am sincerely grateful for the generosity and support of the Van Gieson family. This scholarship is another example of the incredible support this sport provides, and I feel fortunate to be part of such a welcoming and encouraging waterski family. The lake is where I feel most at home, and I am excited to continue sharing my passion for waterskiing with others in our community.” -Madison.

"I am forever grateful that USA Waterski chose me as the recipient for this scholarship as I continue pursuing excellence both academically and in waterskiing. This support will help me work toward my educational and career goals while allowing me to stay committed to a sport that has shaped so much of who I am. I am honored by this opportunity and thankful to be part of a community that values growth, dedication, and sharing the joy of waterskiing with others."
This scholarship was established in 2022 in memory of John R. Van Gieson. John was an avid water skier and was happiest when he was out on the water. John's wife has established this scholarship to help water ski athletes to pursue a college education.
This annual scholarship will be given to a qualifying individual (male or female) from the Midwest Region who attends a two or four-year accredited college or university and water skis in AWSA and/or NCWSA tournaments.
The USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation is very proud of our young athletes and honored to support their future academic needs. You can help support our mission by joining or donating to the foundation.
Established in 1968, the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation celebrates the history of all towed water sports and promotes these sports through our Scholarship and Collegiate Grant Programs and the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Hall of Fame.
