In Memory of Richard “Dick” Kreeger

ree

Richard “Dick” Kreeger of Coral Springs, Florida passed away November 5th, 2025.  He is survived by his wife Janet, sons Keith/Beth and Kevin/Shannon and 5 grandchildren and 1 great grand.  Originally from Pennsylvania and moved to Florida in 1978.

Dick was an engineer in the cable business having been an Executive with Selkirk Communication in Fort Lauderdale and Motorola Company.  Known as the “cable guy” of Okeeheelee Park he was instrumental in the design of the cable camera system.  He directed the laying of 75,000 feet of cables throughout the five lakes.  He perfected the end course cameras and all gate cameras, jump distance cameras utilized for competitive water ski events.

He was a Lifetime member with the Gold Coast Ski Club and a Legacy member of Okeeheelee Ski Club of the Palm Beaches.  He was one of the founders of Mills Pond Park where GCSC resides.  He was heavily involved in Okeeheelee Ski Club.  During the 1986 World event he had cable television throughout the tents and stands so one could keep up with all events and shop at the same time.  He could fix any piece of camera equipment that was utilized and was a stickler for perfection.  He was the right-hand man for any tech controllers that worked Okeeheelee events.  He had no desire to have the tech title but was highly respected by all of them.  He was given the tech award at one of our Nationals by a unanimous vote of all.  He kept everything in proper working conditions and made their life much easier.  There were a lot of firsts at Okeeheelee events and he was usually behind the scenes making it happen.

Janet and Dick Kreeger Inducted Florida Water Ski Hall of Fame in 2006

Janet and Dick Kreeger are the true volunteers.  They stay involved in water skiing even though their kids went off to college twenty years ago.  They love the sport for what it is and the people who are involved in it.  Janet is a top registrar.  She has done local, regional, state and the Masters.  She is the first one there in the morning and last to leave.  She will pitch in with whatever needs to be done from hospitality to digging a ditch.  There isn’t a job that she hasn’t volunteered for!

They own a 1980 Mastercraft and each year attend the Mastercraft Reunion.  They keep the boat in mint condition and it is truly a beautiful show piece.  Dick has been the person that the Ski Club of the Palm Beaches most go to for help with technical things at tournaments.  He has done the video setup for many years for our record tournaments, state, regional and national events.  He takes most any challenge given to him and has helped me to understand the technical needs of our tournaments.

With a shortage of technical controllers, our club has had to become self-sufficient in setting up the tournament so that the technical person can arrive Saturday morning just like all other officials. They belong to two ski clubs.  Gold Coast Ski Club of Ft. Lauderdale and the Ski Club of the Palm Beaches.

They are very active in both clubs but have been officers of Gold Coast for twenty plus years.  They helped in the finding and setup of Mills Pond Park in Ft. Lauderdale.  Dick received the National Technical Controllers Award at the 2005 National Water Ski Tournament.
